I go to work by bus.
Con lugares del día a día usados por su función, el inglés quita el artículo: go to work, go to school, go to bed. Y home es especial: sin to y sin the — go home, no «go to the home». 🔊
Cómo funciona
Algunos lugares se usan por su función, no como edificio, y entonces van sin artículo: go to work (a trabajar), go to school (a estudiar), go to bed (a dormir), be at home, be in bed. Y home funciona como adverbio: go home, come home — sin to y sin the.
El español pone artículo («al trabajo», «a casa»); el inglés lo quita en estos lugares.
work/school/bed pierden el artículo; home pierde también el to: go home, no «go to home».
El patrón del día — sin artículo, o el caso especial de home:
