Dos parejas que el español mezcla. on time = puntual (a la hora); in time = a tiempo, con margen. at the end (of) = al final de (el momento); in the end = al final / finalmente (el resultado). 🔊

on time significa puntual, en el momento previsto: the delivery arrived on time · please be on time. in time significa a tiempo, con margen antes de un límite: we got there in time to help · just in time for the launch. Con «al final», at the end (of) señala el momento final de algo: at the end of the call, at the end of the month. in the end significa finalmente / después de todo (el resultado): in the end, we issued a refund.

Y con «al final»: at the end of = el momento (el cierre); in the end = el resultado (finalmente).

En métricas de servicio, on time es una promesa cumplida al minuto; in time reconoce que se logró por margen, no exacto. Y al cerrar un caso, in the end resume el resultado tras varios intentos: honestidad sobre el proceso.

« The parcel didn't arrive on time, but we reshipped it in time for the event. »

Aquí on time (no fue puntual) y in time (llegó con margen para el evento) cuentan dos cosas distintas: la falla y el rescate, sin contradecirse.

Ojo: at the end of the day también significa «a fin de cuentas» en sentido figurado, además del cierre literal del día.
